Sweet Potato Stem Borer
Symptom
The larvae bore into the stems and roots. Larval feeding creates tunnels and hollow cavities in the stems. Severe infested plants may wilt, and foliage may yellow and die, especially if the stem is damaged near the crown. Infected tubers can become spongy and turn brownish or blackish. Frass may accumulate on the soil surface near the opening of larvae tunnels. In order plants, holes may appear in the stem where adult weevils emerge.
